Thales is an established world leader in cryptographic security products and solutions for electronic payments, and for the safe exchange of value-bearing transactions among business and government. Anywhere, in fact, where privacy, authenticity, and integrity of transactions is critical. The business focuses on three strategic areas: card payments, e-Security, and network security, protecting most of the world's retail card transactions, both for magnetic stripe and emerging smart card technologies.

Thales offers cryptographic processors and related applications to the corporate and banking & finance sectors - as well as to government. Thales has been providing corporate banking solutions for over 20 years, while its Host Security Modules are predominant in card payment security throughout the world.

As an approved supplier of high-grade network security products, Thales has an unrivalled track record in providing cryptographic, tamper-resistant products to the government sector. Its advanced range of security systems allows governments to secure highly sensitive communications through systems that can be bought off-the shelf and have the flexibility to adapt to future requirements.

Layer 3 IP Datacryptor Solutions

The THALES Datacryptor range of hardware encryptors provides strong and certified perimeter security for a wide range of network architectures including, leased lines, Frame Relay, X.25, and SONET/SDH networks.

With triple DES (168-bit) or AES (128, 192, 256-bit) algorithms built in, or using other customized, or national algorithms, it is the first family of encryption products to offer algorithm flexibility and protocol agility. This means that not only can the unit be programmed with different cryptographic algorithms as specified by the customer, but depending on the infrastructure and certain physical limitations, the same unit can be loaded to support various communications protocols. These unique features enable territory-specific algorithms to be implemented, which protects the customer's investment by allowing migration to changing protocols and new algorithms.

The X.25, Frame Relay, standard IP, and the Datacryptor AP (Advanced Performance) allow customers to conveniently migrate to AES by simply performing a software upgrade on the spot or remotely, without having to return the unit to a depot.

Approved to international standards including FIPS 140-2 and Common Criteria, the Datacryptor range provides robust tamper resistance, operates at native network speeds without undue latency, and integrates easily with legacy and new networks. An integrated Element Management feature and Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) compatibility also provide secure enterprise management options.

Forward-looking and committed to product innovation, responsiveness, technical expertise, and value, the Datacryptor family secures not only your business' sensitive data, but also the investment your company makes in security products for years to come.

Why Layer 3 IP Encryption

Layer 3 applications are appropriate for meshed network architectures, which allow the customer the ability to leverage the public infrastructure to connect to multiple sites. Thales provides a full range of IP-based encryption solutions, which can be deployed in large scale network architectures.

Key advantages to Layer 3 encryption are:

  • Connect multiple sites over public infrastructure
  • Ideal for wireless and wireline communications
  • Ability to aggregate satellite offices
  • Allows modification of bandwidth requirements without new hardware
